Press Briefing

Spokesperson and Deputy Minister for Public Affairs Soosuk Lim

May 30, 2024  14:30  KST

Good afternoon. Let me start today’s briefing.

The government of the Republic of Korea has decided to provide US$500,000 in humanitarian aid to Papua New Guinea to support the latter’s ongoing relief efforts in response to landslides.

The ROK government hopes that its humanitarian aid to Papua New Guinea would support, even if only slightly, the recovery of the affected areas and the swift return of residents in those areas to their daily lives.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Cho Tae-yul will hold the Korea-Africa foreign ministers’ meeting on the afternoon of June 2.

In the meeting, Foreign Minister Cho and his counterparts from African countries, including Nigeria, Rwanda, and Senegal, will also conduct a final review of preparations for the successful hosting of the Korea-Africa Summit to be held next week.

In addition, Foreign Minister Cho will hold separate bilateral meetings with the foreign ministers of African countries starting from June 2, and exchange views on bilateral relations, enhancing substantive cooperation, and regional and global issues.

(A question-and-answer session followed.)
