1. Amb. Noh Kyu-duk, the newly appointed Special Representative for Korean Peninsula Peace and Security Affairs, had his first telephone conversation with China’s Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs Wu Jianghao on the morning of December 29.
2. The two sides shared their assessments of the current situation on the Korean Peninsula, and exchanged views on ways to cooperate to make progress in the Korean Peninsula peace process, while managing the current situation in a stable manner.
o Special Representative Noh asked China to play a role in resuming dialogue with North Korea. Assistant Minister Wu appreciated the Korean government’s efforts to make progress in the Korean Peninsula peace process and reaffirmed China’s commitment to working together.
3. The two sides agreed to continue bilateral
consultations on North Korea issues in various ways including holding face-to-face
consultations as early as possible.
