1. The Republic of Korea-Kingdom of Spain working holiday agreement, signed on December 18, 2017, was brought into force on October 24.

° The agreement will allow (up to an annual 1,000) young Koreans aged 18-30 to stay in Spain for up to one year, broadening their horizons through travel, foreign language studies and cultural experiences, as well as building work experiences through temporary jobs.

The official name of the agreement: The Agreement Between the Government of the Republic of Korea and the Government of the Kingdom of Spain Concerning a Youth Mobility Programme

2. Pursuant to the now-effective Agreement, an annual 1,000 youngsters each of the ROK and Spain will be offered opportunities to experience the local culture and life style of the other country, and are thereby expected to help further promote the friendly and cooperative ties between the two countries.

° In particular, language and cultural experiences built in Spain, which is closely related to Latin American countries in terms of politics, economy and culture, will help prepare for presence in Latin America.

3. To date, the ROK has concluded working holiday agreements with 23 countries. In 2017, some 40,000 young Koreans joined the working holiday program overseas. Going forward, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will seek such agreements with countries of ROK nationals’ choice in a bid to offer young Koreans more opportunities to build presence overseas.
