1. Foreign Minister Yun Byung-se will visit New York from April 27 to 28 to attend a ministerial meeting of the UN Security Council on the denuclearization of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea on April 28.

o The upcoming meeting will be chaired by Secretary of State Rex Tillerson of the US, which is President of the Security Council for the month of April, and attended by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, and representatives from 15 members of the Security Council and the ROK, a country concerned.

2. The meeting will mark the first ministerial meeting on the denuclearization of a certain country in the history of the UN Security Council. This clearly shows that not only the Trump administration, but also all Security Council members, including China and Russia, recognize the severity and urgency of the North Korean nuclear issue.

3. In the meeting, Minister Yun will stress that North Korea’s nuclear and missile development is the most urgent and severe threat to peace and security not only on the Korean Peninsula and in Northeast Asia, but in the entire international community. He will also stress that while sending a strong warning against North Korea’s reckless provocations, the Security Council needs to respond preemptively and proactively to the North Korean nuclear issue by swiftly imposing sanctions that go beyond those in Security Council Resolutions 2270 and 2321, if North Korea engages in another provocation.

4. On the sidelines of the ministerial meeting, Minister Yun will meet with key figures, including UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and former US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, and discuss the international response to solve the North Korean nuclear problem.
