1. Second Vice Foreign Minister Cho Tae-yul hosted a working luncheon for Ambassadors to the Republic of Korea from member states of the UN Security Council on January 27 to discuss ways to respond to North Korea’s fourth nuclear test.
◦ The Vice Minister, stressing that North Korea’s fourth nuclear test clearly constitutes a threat to international peace and security, asked the member states of the UN Security Council to cooperate for the adoption of a strong and effective Security Council resolution.
2. On the same day, the Foreign Ministry held a meeting with the Korean Peninsula Club and the Peace Club to discuss the same issue.
◦ At the event hosted by Director-General for Korean Peninsula Peace Regime Kwon Yong-woo, the government of the Republic of Korea explained the current grave situation triggered by North Korea’s fourth nuclear test as well as the ROK government’s position, and asked for the international community’s cooperation in responding sternly to the North Korean nuclear test.
