Outcome of the 7th ROK-Mongolia Meeting of the Directors-General for Consular Affairs

1. The 7th Meeting of the Directors-General for Consular Affairs between the Republic of Korea and Mongolia took place in Ulan Bator, Mongolia, on October 24, co-chaired by Ahn Young-jip, Director-General for Overseas Koreans and Consular Affairs of the ROK Foreign Ministry, and Sukhabaatar, Director-General for Consular Affairs of the Mongolian Foreign Ministry.

* The ROK-Mongolia Meeting of the Directors-General for Consular Affairs takes place in the two countries on an annual and a rotational basis.

2. In the Meeting, the two countries discussed ways to make their visa processes more convenient and reduce related problems and reviewed the progress in the implementation of the bilateral consular agreement. In addition, they exchanged views on and discussed ways to better protect their nationals staying in each other’s countries as well as the issue concerning marriages between peoples of their two countries.

3. The ROK delegation, in particular, asked the Mongolian government to maintain cooperation for the “ROK-Mongolia Agreement to Streamline the Visa Process” to be smoothly implemented; to exempt Koreans staying in Mongolia from shouldering the dual payment of social insurance premiums in accordance with the bilateral social security agreement; and to support the bids of numerous airlines to operate flights between the ROK and Mongolia.

4. The two sides agreed to hold their next, the 8th, consular meeting in the ROK at a mutually convenient time.
